Pride & Shame: The Roots Of US-China Tensions | When Titans Clash | Ep 1/4 | CNA Documentary

US China relations are at its worst in modern history, how did the two countries get to this point? Understand the historical forces driving the conflict - from China’s Century of Shame to the slow decay of deindustrialisation in the US. Further adding to tensions is China’s perspective that US meddled in Hong Kong’s internal politics, and the American perspective that China is in part to blame for the coronavirus pandemic. After 4 years of escalating conflict under a Trump administration, what will Biden’s approach to China be?

In the 1970's and 80's our car manufacturing steady decline was blamed on JAPAN and not so much on the German & European manufacturers. Japan was smart to make quality small cars which are very fuel efficient. We have difficulty accepting our failure and much of the frustrations turn into jealousy & anger toward Japan. Yet consumers did not hesitate to buy Japanese products because they are truly well made. China's economic success in the last 40 years is truly a result of their determination to get out of poverty and humiliation by the West. It was hard work, patience, intellect, good leadership, much sweat & blood sacrificed for this endeavor. Instead of applaud and acknowledgment for a successful economic transformation from the West, China instead became the focus of jealousy, anger and hatred from these countries including India. China has never exhibit any aggression toward these Western countries. In fact China has been helping many poor & developing countries economically esp. with the infrastructure projects. IS IT FAIR TO TREAT CHINA THIS WAY JUST BECAUSE IT BECAME MIRACULOUSLY SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR ECONOMIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL ENDEAVORS?

The wrong was to open to help the the China (communist), humanity is a fundamental human law but we can not do this with dictator and communists by opening our border to help them have money (cold war must be maintain because these regimes don't care about human rights). Now we pay this by helping them to develop their economy, to acquire now our technologies and by our mistakes they can build a big strong army with the atomic bomb, we may now lose our freedom and our life. The worst is we are not sure to win the war and our children may die or they will be under their communist law as Tibet or Hong-kong or the Uygurh community. This is from a Malaysian DEnewssr’s comment: I’m from Malaysia. China has traded with Malaysia for 2000 years. In those years, they had been the world’s biggest powers many times. Never once they sent troops to take our land. Admiral Zhenghe came to Malacca five times, in gigantic fleets, and a flagship eight times the size of Christopher Columbus’ flagship, Santa Maria. He could have seized Malacca easily, but he did not. In 1511, the Portuguese came. In 1642, the Dutch came. In the 18th century, the British came. We were colonized by each, one after another. When China wanted spices from India, they traded with the Indians. When they wanted gems, they traded with the Persians. They didn’t take lands. The only time China expanded beyond its current borders was in Yuan Dynasty when Genghis and his descendants Ogedei Khan, Guyuk Khan & Kublai Khan concurred with China, Mid Asia, and Eastern Europe. But Yuan Dynasty, although being based in China, was a part of the Mongolian Empire. Then came the Century of Humiliation. Britain smuggled opium into China to dope the population, a strategy to turn the trade deficit around after the British could not find enough silver to pay the Qing Dynasty in their tea and porcelain trades. After the opium warehouses were burned down and ports were closed by the Chinese in ordered to curb opium, the British started the Opium War I, which China lost. Hong Kong was forced to be surrendered to the British in a peace talk (Nanjing Treaty). The British owned 90% of the opium market in China, during that time, Queen Victoria was the world’s biggest drug baron. The remaining 10% was owned by American merchants from Boston. Many of Boston’s institutions were built with profit from opium. After 12 years of the Nanjing Treaty, the West started getting really really greedy. The British wanted the Qing government: 1. To open the borders of China to allow goods coming in and out freely, and tax-free. 2. Make opium legal in China. Insane request, the Qing government said no. The British and French, with supports from the US and Russia from behind, started Opium War II with China, which again, China lost. The Anglo-French military raided the Summer Palace, and threatened to burn down the Imperial Palace, the Qing government was forced to pay with ports, free business zones, 300,000 kilograms of silver and Kowloon was taken. Since then, China’s resources flow out freely through these business zones and ports. In the subsequent amendment to the treaties, Chinese people were sold overseas to serve as labor. In 1900, China suffered attacks by the 8-National Alliance(Japan, Russia, Britain, France, USA, Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary). Innocent Chinese civilians in Peking (Beijing now) were murdered, buildings were destroyed & women were raped. The Imperial Palace was raided, and treasures ended up in museums like the British Museum in London and the Louvre in Paris. In the late 1930s, China was occupied by the Japanese in WWII. Millions of Chinese died during the occupancy. 300,000 Chinese died in Nanjing Massacre alone. Mao brought China together again from the shambles. There were peace and unity for some time. But Mao’s later reign saw sufferings and deaths from famine and power struggles. Then came Deng Xiao Ping and his infamous “black-cat and white-cat” story. His preference for pragmatism over ideologies has transformed China. This thinking allowed China to evolve all the time to adapt to the actual needs in the country, instead of rigidly bounded to ideologies. It also signified the death of Communism in actual practice in China. The current Socialism+Meritocracy+Market Economy model fits the Chinese like gloves, and it propels the uprise of China. Singapore has a similar model and has been arguably more successful than Hong Kong because Hong Kong is the gateway to China, was riding on the economic boom in China, while Singapore had no one to gain from. In just 30 years, the CPC has moved 800 million people out of poverty. The rate of growth is unprecedented in human history. They have built the biggest mobile network, by far the biggest high-speed rail network in the world, and they have become a behemoth in infrastructure. They made a fishing village called Shenzhen into the world’s second-largest technological center after the Silicon Valley. They are growing into a technological powerhouse. It has the most elaborate e-commerce and cashless payment system in the world. They have launched exploration to Mars. The Chinese are living a good life and China has become one of the safest countries in the world. The level of patriotism in the country has reached an unprecedented height. For all of the achievements, the West has nothing good to say about it. China suffers from intense anti-China propaganda from the West. Western Media used the keyword “Communist” to instill fear and hatred towards China. Everything China does is negatively reported. They claimed China used slave labor in making iPhones. The truth was, Apple was the most profitable company in the world, it took most of the profit, leave some to Foxconn (a Taiwanese company), and little to the labor. They claimed China was inhuman with the one-child policy. At the same time, they accused China of polluting the earth with its huge population. The fact is the Chinese consume just 30% of energy per capita compared to the US. They claimed China underwent ethnic cleansing in Xinjiang. The fact is China has a policy that prioritizes ethnic minorities. For a long time, the ethnic minorities were allowed to have two children and the majority of Han only allowed one. The minorities are allowed a lower score for university intakes. There is 39,000 mosque in China, and 2100 in the US. China has about 3 times more mosques per Muslim than the US. When terrorist attacks happened in Xinjiang, China had two choices: 1. Re-educate the Uighur extremists before they turned terrorists. 2. Let them be after they launch attacks and killed innocent people, bomb their homes. China chose 1 to solve the problem from the root and not to do killing. How the US solve terrorism? Fire missiles from battleships, drop bombs from the sky. During the pandemic, When China took extreme measures to lock down the people, they were accused of being inhuman. When China recovered swiftly because of the extreme measures, they were accused of lying about the actual numbers. When China’s cases became so low that they could provide medical support to other countries, they were accused of politically motivated. Western Media always have reasons to bash China. Just like any country, there are irresponsible individuals from China who do bad and dirty things, but the China government overall has done very well. But I hear this comment over and over by people from the West: I like Chinese people, but the CPC is evil. What they really want is the Chinese to change the government, because the current one is too good. Fortunately, China is not a multi-party democratic country, otherwise, the opposition party in China will be supported by notorious NGOs (Non-Government Organization) of the USA, like the NED (National Endowment for Democracy), to topple the ruling party. The US and the British couldn’t crack Mainland China, so they work in Hong Kong. Of all the ex-British colonial countries, only the Hong Kongers were offered BNOs by the British. Because the UK would like the Hong Kongers to think they are British citizens, not Chinese. A divide-and-conquer strategy, which they often used in Color Revolutions around the world. They resort to low dirty tricks like detaining Huawei’s CFO & banning Huawei. They raised a silly trade war that benefits no one. Trade deficit always exists between a developing and a developed country. The USA is like a luxury car seller who asks a farmer: why am I always buying your vegetables and you haven’t bought any of my cars? When the Chinese were making socks for the world 30 years ago, the world let it be. But when the Chinese started to make high technology products, like Huawei and DJI, it caused red-alert. Because when Western and Japanese products are equal to Chinese in technologies, they could never match the Chinese in prices. First-world countries want China to continue making socks. Instead of stepping up themselves, they want to pull China down. The recent movement by the US against China has a very important background. When Libya, Iran, and China decided to ditch the US dollar in oil trades, Gaddafi was killed by the US, Iran was being sanctioned by the US, and now it’s China’s turn. The US has been printing money out of nothing. The only reason why the US Dollar is still widely accepted is that it’s the only currency with which oil is allowed to be traded with. The US has an agreement with Saudi that oil must be traded in the US dollar ONLY. Without the petrol-dollar status, the US dollars will sink, and America will fall. Therefore anyone trying to disobey this order will be eliminated. China will soon use a gold-backed crypto-currency, the alarms in the White House go off like mad. China’s achievement has been by hard work. Not by looting the world.

All the stimulus helicopter money printed by central banks around the world will inevitably lead to another war. The rise of China was planned largely by the west so it will serve as a potent adversary in a future war. According to Kissinger; “The United States is baiting China and Russia, and the final nail in the coffin will be Iran, which is, of course, the main target of Israel. We have allowed China to increase their military strength and Russia to recover from Sovietization, to give them a false sense of bravado, this will create an all together faster demise for them. We’re like the sharp shooter daring the noob to pick up the gun, and when they try, it’s bang bang. The coming war will be so severe that only one superpower can win, and that’s us folks. This is why the EU is in such a hurry to form a complete superstate because they know what is coming, and to survive, Europe will have to be one whole cohesive state. Their urgency tells me that they know full well that the big showdown is upon us. O how I have dreamed of this delightful moment.”

It has happened in the UK too. This is the fault of those US companies who sold themselves out for short term greed and behaved in an unpatriotic way towards the US in favour of China and short term profits for the few.. How about talking about how the west helped them get Japan out of their country in WW2. Mao put them all in poverty with his ridiculous land reform that killed tens of millions of Chinese. Killed off anyone with an education , or made peasants out of them working the fields . China is doing well now because it decided to open up to the western imperialist and allowed its people some small amount of freedom under Deng. China will have taken Taiwan for its 100th year anniversary of the CCP and will look to move further outwards to consolidate its new central place on the global stage. But even that wont matter, resources will become scarcer by 2049, pollution will be at an all time high. Food prices will be out of control. Whatever little determination will be left in the world at that time will be spent to make sure YOUR country, doesnt die first. Instead of actually working towards real, meaningful change. War, children, is just a shot away.

America and most of the world has awakened to the threat that China has become. Americans now view China as an Evil Empire due to their state sponsor of slavery as one example. The intentional or unintentional release of the Corona Virus upon the world is another of a long list of atrocities intentionally committed by China. Regardless of the reason, the Chinese Evil Empire killed hundreds of millions of people around the world. My impression is that the recently reconstituted Quad plus Canada, Australia New Zealand,Taiwan, Britain, Ireland, the EU Thailand, Vietnam and many others will not permit China to forcibly take over Taiwan or any democratic country. The Chinese have a massive navy, adequate air force and plenty of poorly trained and equipped soldiers. They are not yet prepared for an invasion of Taiwan. And if Taiwan waits much longer to declare itself an independent country, it will be too late to stop the Chinese in 2 or 3 years. The democratic nations of the world currently recognize that Taiwan has the moral high ground. If Xi Chinese leadership thinks the world will accept a Chinese military invasion of Taiwan, it will become a pariah on the world stage. Its now time to put all of Taiwan's allies on notice that they are declaring themselves an independent nation entitled to recognition by the United Nations. Either do it now or become part of the Chinese Evil Empire... remember Hong Kong???

China proceeds like this because throughout world history they never coexisted with other races with other cultures and languages, which the West did, what China wants to do with this silk route, and of course the issue Economic is first and the issue of knowing other cultures, understanding and living together, they can no longer do, that is the poverty that China has and that will take hundreds of years or suddenly never achieve that knowledge of the different idiosyncrasies of other races, of the In other languages, the West coexisted with a diversity of cultures thanks to the Roman Empire that knew how to manage multiple cultures and their respective idiosyncrasies well, there is something in the Roman Empire with respect to the other empires that succeeded it and to this day that there is also an empire and it is that the Romans conquered that is different from invading, they knew how to assimilate the benefits of each culture and they also knew that these cultures little by little assimilated to the p As a consequence of this, many barbarians felt Roman not by blood but at least culturally, after all, many barbarians felt like Roman, for China to approach what the Roman Empire did is very difficult given its backwardness In understanding the worldview of different civilizations and cultures, the Chinese are VERY ANCHORED in their way of being and their racial homogeneity prevents them from thinking otherwise, their mentality is another opposite to that of the West, and they cannot be otherwise In this way, they are thousands of years of self-enclosure, without relating to, NEITHER LIVED, NOR UNDERSTAND the other cultures of this world, Achilles heel of China, the West has the enormous advantage since its beginnings of knowing, living together and even marrying people from other cultures the ones that interested them the most or those that brought them the most benefit, China is very poor in this, the West will always put a brake on China when the Chinese behave with the West If you think that Westerners are Chinese, if there is something that characterizes the West, it is its legacy of struggles to have more freedom, because the successive systems of governments and political regimes from the monarchy, fascism, nationalism, tyrants, Dictators, caudillos, etc., always clashed with the cultural legacy of the demand for freedom, that is why the West is the only continent where many revolutions took place that had a sense, a north, and that north has been that of well-being, freedom to initiative In all fields, many suffered persecution, others burned them, the same French Revolution was a suffering and a disorder for all monarchical Europe, but thanks to it the universal rights of man were bequeathed, a precious legacy that did not come from the East or the Chinese, so the Chinese still have to learn too much from the West, they are doing it but with tricks and tricks, by stealing technology and eating secrets cial that shamelessly DENY, this behavior of the Chinese will be HARDLY fought in the West, China has not legacy anything TRANSCENDENTAL to this world, they are just learning, THEIR MAIN AND ONLY CAPITAL is the number of MILLIONS OF CHINESE THAT it houses in its territory and that It is also very poor in natural resources, China, as I wrote several years ago, is becoming a serious threat to the West given the great and URGENT NEED for food, it will enter into a warlike conflict with the West, but it is on time, the West is too strong together, And the new challenge is to definitively stop the Chinese expansionism that is veiled with aid and investments in other countries, the Chinese are deceitful they do not change, China is aware of the events in the West, they think that if the West is fighting among themselves and there is disagreement The West will be weakened and China will be able to penetrate easily, because in the Chinese there is ideology, racial and cultural unity. lturally, the West has to immediately put a stop to China, Japan is a clear example of why it entered TREATELY into the Second World War, THEY DID NOT HAVE NATURAL RESOURCES just like China, the West has to face this looming threat and put a DEFINITIVE brake on Chinese expansionism.

China is not the scapegoat. The CCP caused it, all of it. 1. Wuhan virus started in Wuhan. They've tried to say otherwise. 2. Doctors warned the CCP that the virus was dangerous and highly contagious. The CCP sanctioned and threatened them. 3. The virus spread uncontrollably and the CCP tried to hide it from its own people and the world. They lied and lied again. 4. The total the world that there was no human to human to human transmission, despite the fact that it was running rampant in China. Rampant. The CCP lied, again. 5. The CCP had a highly contagious out of control virus and they were sending people out of the country without warning anyone. Anyone. They knew it. They were shutting down interior roads all over China while telling others there was nothing to worry about. They lied again. I could go on. Did the CCP pay for this crap?

=============== China's expansionist rulers have been committing a heinous genocide on the Uyghur people in China's western province Xin-Jiang (East Turkestan) # Remember that China's expansionist rulers were also directing the Pol Pot Clique to perpetrate a most barbaric genocide on the Cambodian people during the 1970s; luckily, the Vietnamese had come to the rescue and ended that barbaric genocide, saving the Cambodian people. =============== This is about the heinous genocide that's being perpetrated on the hapless Uyghur people in Xin-Jiang, China (East Turkestan before that country was invaded, occupied and renamed by China's expansionist Rulers) =============== Beside the barbaric Genocide committed on the Cambodian people during 1975 - 1978 to wipe Cambodia clean of Cambodians and ready Cambodia for Deng_XiaoPing-Mao_ZeDong's Chinese advisers, then troops, then colonizers, to flood in, there is another no-less barbaric Genocide that has been committed on the Uyghur people, and is now continuing; and the Culprits are the same: The boundlessly greedy, ruthless, brutal, expansionist Rulers of China. =============== Poor Uighurs (Uyghurs). Like the Tibetans, a very cunning and extremely vicious genocide is being committed on them by China's ever greedy, ruthless, brutal and expansionist Rulers. # They are subjected to a genocide, both physically and culturally. # The World Community must help them before they are completely exterminated; and QUICKLY # Next-door Russia can help best. # The US, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, France, Canada, Turkey, ... and the International Community must cooperate with Russia to help the Uyghurs escape this Genocide, instead of opposing, stirring up trouble and causing difficulty for Russia. # Repeat: World MUST HURRY, before the Uyghurs are gone. =============== The Uyghur people is being subjected to a systematic, ruthless, extremely cunning and vicious genocide by China's ever greedy expansionist rulers. The Uyghurs are about to be exterminated, physically and culturally, unless the World helps them, QUICKLY.

Unrestricted free trade can only work if it's between nations with the same level of development. The reality is that America cannot compete against China because the average Chinese factory worker gets $100-$200 a month and China has fewer regulations governing environmental protection and job safety. No American worker can afford to work for such little money so how can America compete? And if anyone says that this is why so many products have such a low price, maybe they should look at how much an iPhone (which is made in China) costs. It was never about free trade; it was all about free investment.

Actually mr world bank fellow... it can be both China's deception about the outbreak which had an exponential impact on the spread of the virus and then as a result of their actions we had to deal with a moron president who increased the harm it did to the US. You can mock Trump all you want but anyone with a scientific understanding of epidemiology understands what china did was instrumental for this pandemic. If they weren't a totalitarian control freak country this likely could have been much more contained. My theory is they already knew it was going to effect their country severely so they let it seed throughout the world to even the playingfield.
